Bruce was a gentle and excellent guitar instructor. I am ever grateful for his saving my ability to play guitar by correcting the technique that had strained my left hand to the point of needing surgery and have fond memories of our lessons. He also made it possible for me to safely use guitar to provide hours of music therapy sessions. I am saddened to hear of his death.
Bruce and my wife and I were inseparable friends during my graduate studies (not classical guitar) at Florida State University from 1973-1977. We lost touch over the years, but Stefanie and I never lost our very deep affection for Bruce. We are so terribly sad to have learned of Bruce's death. RIP dear friend.
I was a student of Bruce at FSU starting in 1978. I was saddened to hear of his passing. I remember one Saturday running into him at the mall. I was trying to hide, but he saw me and asked why I wasn't practicing!! Myself and my friend remember that well and still laugh about that. Needless to say, as soon as I got back to the dorm I went to the basement practice room and got started for the day.
He was a patient teacher and a calm, nice man. RIP
I was very sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. I have wonderful memories of studying with him at FSU. We both started at the same time in 1972. Within just a few years he built up an amazing studio of guitarists and people. His devotion to his students was unmatched. Having a professor who cared as deeply as he did about us as people and musicians meant a great deal to all of us. I am sure all of his students over the years feel the same way. He will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.
I just heard today of Bruce Holzmans passing. I met him in 1972 when he came to FSU where I was a first year guitar major. Bruce was such a friendly and approachable person and excellent teacher. I have nothing but fond memories and gratitude for Bruce and will miss him dearly. My deepest condolences to his family. Kerry Schoolfield.
Bruce was my teacher as a graduate guitar performance major at Florida State University in the early 1980's. In addition to being a world class teacher, he was a world class human being and a mensch. I wish his brother, Adam, and the rest of the Holzman family much strength in this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
I studied with him for a summer and was a part of the studio studying under different grad students. Bruce was one of the funniest, wittiest individuals I've ever met. If he hadn't allowed me into that guitar program all those years ago I no doubt would not be the person/musician I am today. Thanks for always looking out for us, and all the years of memories. Rest in peace Bruce. You will be missed dearly
I studied with Bruce in the early 90s at FSU. What an amazing man and a great guy. I was so sorry to hear this news. My condolences to the family and friends of Bruce.
