Beverly Balsley Deyo's Obituary
Beverly Balsley Deyo, born September 29, 1931, died March 12, 2024 at her home in Tallahassee, FL. The daughter of Bernice Bloodgood Balsley and Rollin Balsley, she grew up in the Detroit area where she enjoyed singing, playing the piano and clarinet, cats, and outdoor activities.
In 1951 she married her sweetheart Bruce Deyo and moved with him to Washington, D.C. They remained married until his death parted them in 2018. Beverly completed her degree in English Literature at George Washington University in 1953 and was a teacher. Later she and Bruce moved to Milwaukee, WI and then to Marion, Ohio. During these years she had three daughters, whom she tirelessly supported through music, dancing, and ice skating lessons. She was actively involved in the figure skating community and became a USFSA judge.
Intelligent, capable, and determined, she worked in many capacities, including as an employment counselor, a medical claims examiner, and an entrepreneur. She explored a wide variety of hobbies, including painting, theatre, horse breeding, and choral singing. She loved to travel with Bruce in their RV to visit family across the country and enjoy their beach house in Florida.
Bev had a love for clever word plays and retained a witty sense of humor throughout her long life. Her faith and love grew ever stronger as she aged. She will be sorely missed.
Bev is survived by her brother, Ron Balsley, her daughters, Pamela Olzman, Carolyn Deyo, and Marianne Tisch, her grandchildren Blair Lumpkin, Kathryn Stanley, and John Stanley, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
