Bettye Jean Varnado's Obituary
Bettye Jean Varnado passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born September 30, 1946, in Natchitoches, Louisianna, to the late Dorsey and Effie Chatman.
She traveled the world with her military husband, Roy, finally settling in Panama City, Florida in 1983. She worked for the United States Civil Service in finance and civil engineering until her retirement from Tyndall Air Force Base in 2007. After retirement, she worked at the Bay County Council on Aging providing loving assistance to disabled seniors. She also volunteered at the Accension Sacred Heart Bay Gift Shop. Bettye enjoyed bowling and was a long-time member of the Happy Rollers Ladies League in Panama City.
After Hurricane Michael, she moved to Tallahassee to be closer to her daughter. As a cancer survivor, her optimism and passion for life was an inspiration to all. Her unwavering love, encouragement, and support toward her family will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Bettye is survived by her sisters Ivory Petrie and Gloria Fullwood, brother Walter Chatman, daughter LaQuita Varnado-Extine, son LeRone Varnado, son-in law Klaus Extine, daughter-in-law Stacey Cherry, and her partner and best friend Roy Varnado.
