Dear Bernie,
Bad luck and luck are close to each other in life.
Bad luck that we, your Dutch half-brother John and sister-in-law Mieke, only met you for the first time 3 years ago.
Good luck that we still met you 3 years ago.
Too bad your other half-brother Max had already passed away.
With great help and support from your entire Zeegers family, we visited you in Harbor Chase 3 years ago. Yes, that was something. You 85 and I 65 years old. You were playing the piano and I sat down next to you. It was like "Livingstone, I presume?"
That was the 1st time we saw each other. Fantastic but unreal.
Last year we were able to visit you again. You still recognized us and you still spoke very good Dutch.
Due to Covid-19, we were unable to visit you this year. We did, however, telephone each other in Dutch last week, while you were in hospital. It was striking that you indicated in that conversation that you did not want to undergo the same agony as your mother had before her end of life.
On March 9, we received a message from Bert and Sally that you had passed away peacefully in your sleep. Sad, but glad that your last wish was fulfilled, we were able to share our grief with our new family Zeegers.
We would like to thank Bert and Sally very much for all the visits, care and love they have given you.
We would also like to thank the Harbor Chase staff and management for their loving care and dedication that we have seen with our own eyes. Heart warming!
