Annette Bairan's Obituary
Dr. Annette (Grubbs) Bairan, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2021, in Tallahassee, Florida.
Dr. Bairan is survived by her children, Cindy Plouffe (Marcel) and Adrian Bairan (Brenda); her five grandchildren, Savanna Christy, Ian Plouffe, Ryanne Gardner, Brett Horick, and Kyle Horick; her two great-grandchildren, Asher Gardner, and Harper Gardner; and her sister Nola Grubbs. Dr. Bairan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, William Castillo Bairan; and her sister Elaine Bush.
Born on December 4, 1935, in Georgetown, Georgia to Adrian and Nell (Wood) Grubbs, Dr. Bairan went on to graduate from Crawford Long Hospital School of Nursing at age nineteen. She continued her education in public health and nursing, eventually earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Nursing in Community Health, a Certificate in Gerontology, and a PhD in Sociology. Dr. Bairan was also a certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
In 1972, Dr. Bairan began her teaching career at Kennesaw State University, where she eventually became a Professor of Nursing. During her 40-year tenure at the university she received many awards and accolades, but most importantly, her students’ testimonials and course evaluations reflected on who Dr. Bairan was...an open, caring teacher, always available to her students.
Dr. Bairan cherished her family, friends, students, and the opportunity to learn each and every day. She is remembered as kind, compassionate and fiercely faithful to those she loved. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Dr. Annette (Grubbs) Bairan was laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
