Anna Tipton Barfield's Obituary
On June 24, 2025, Anna Tipton Barfield, 95, went to be with the Lord. Anna was raised in Waco, Kentucky, where her parents Tom and Carolena Tipton had a farm. She went to college where she earned her degree in commercial art and worked at a greeting card company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Anna met the love of her life, Fred Thomas Barfield, while he was in active duty in the Navy. After the wedding, and Fred returning from Japan, they located to Athens, Georgia where he attended college. They then moved to Tallahassee and then to Carrabelle, Florida. Anna and her family settled in Havana, Florida, where they opened Barfield’s Drugs.
She put her faith in Jesus above all else and led her life accordingly. She volunteered for every committee in her church and was a pianist at Riverside Baptist Church. Anna volunteered as a pianist at a Hispanic church for a year and a half even though she didn’t speak any Spanish. She loved children so much that she became a guardian ad litem for Gadsden County. She was in prison ministry, entertained at several assisted living homes, and picked up children for church. Anna and Fred fostered 22 children and sponsored a precious family from Vietnam.
One of the highlights of her life was traveling and she loved visiting Israel. Anna was widowed after 32 happy years of marriage and kept busy with all her paintings in watercolor and acrylic. She sculptured cakes and was a florist who volunteered her talent to Havana brides. She learned countless jokes so that she could tell one at moment's notice since she loved to make people laugh. Anna started drawing lighthouses to mail out to family and friends and she was proud to have up to 35 drawings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; sister, Betty Mayfield; brothers James Tipton and Charles Tipton. She will be missed by her children Kathy Brower Poss (James), Lynda Skye Zapata (Al), Fred Thomas Barfield, Donna Nelson Grimes (Kenneth), Timothy Nathaniel Barfield (Roberta); her grandchildren Brittany Moore (Rich), Carolena Henderson (Mark), Courtney Kinsey (Chris), Caitlin Nelson, Blake Zapata (Cory), Sawyer Zapata, Stephany Jarrell (Anthony), Anna Trueworthy (Stephen) and Nathan Barfield; twelve great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.
Knowing that Anna is in Heaven provides comfort to her family and friends who love her and will miss her.
A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Havana on Saturday, July 12th at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 10:00am. Arrangements are being handled by Lifesong Funerals and Cremations in Quincy, Florida.
