Alfred Barry Burke 's Obituary
Alfred Barry Burke, 85, of Quincy, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on May 5, 2015.
Alfred was born and raised in Labelle, FL where he graduated high school. He served in the U.S. Army after high school and later attended the University of Florida on the GI bill. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UF. He started working for the Department of Transportation straight out of college and would retire as Director of Federal Aid. Al was largely responsible for the interstate system built in Florida. He was a avid orchid raiser and cook and made the best potato salad and pound cake one could eat :)
Survivors include two sons, Win Burke (Mirena) of Sudbury, MA; and Barry Burke (Paula) of Tyngsboro, MA; three grandchildren, Joe Considine of Tallahassee; Adam Nicholas Burke of Charleston, SC; and Samantha Becker of St. Mary’s County, MD; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Camille; and his close cousin, Arthur L. Burke, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Mellinger.
