Alathia Margaret Lister 's Obituary
Alathia Margaret (Blauvelt) Lister went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 26, 2018, following her long battle with cancer.
Alathia was born on March 11, 1952 in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in math education, beginning her teaching career in Ft. Lauderdale. Thereafter she taught math at Lincoln High School and was also their first volleyball coach along with Mary Kay Wells. While taking some graduate courses at FSU, she was an FSU teaching assistant. She also taught briefly at Leon High School. She retired from teaching in June 2005 to stay home and raise their daughters. However, not wishing to leave the teaching field completely, Alathia continued to tutor middle and high school students. She taught in a way that even the most difficult math formulas and concepts could be grasped. For the past 20+ years she managed their rental properties.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis, their daughter, Miranda Duguid, their two “sons”, Brian Duguid and Michael Lopez, their four grandchildren, Logan, Eliana and Gavin Duguid, and Mason Lopez, her two sisters, Deborah Messina and Beth El Xanders, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alathia was predeceased by their 2nd daughter, Lani Lopez, and is now reunited with her.
Alathia’s family invites you to attend her Home Going Celebration Service to be held at Wildwood Church on Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to Wildwood’s Our Father’s Storehouse, where she loved to share God’s love with others, faithfully serving beside her husband and oldest grandson, Logan.
