Jean Hubbard Adleman

Jean Hubbard Adleman, born in Endwell, NY, dramatically came into the world on December 27, 1920. Her mother, Dorothy Smith Hubbard, married to Harold S. Hubbard, had chickenpox at the time of Jean’s birth, and Jean was born covered with chickenpox. When she was four, her parents , grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all moved to Hialeah , Florida, to the grassy wetlands at the edge of the Everglades. Jean completed the Hialeah School and Miami High. At 17 she worked as a curb hop in her parent’s restaurant, Hubbard’s Kubbard. There she met a fresh young jockey named William Pete Adleman, from Baltimore, MD, who rode thoroughbreds at the Hialeah Race Track. She determined then that if Jockey Pete returned for the 1938 racing season, he wasn’t going to get away; they married on April 9, 1939, a marriage that lasted 59 years, until Pete's passing in 1998. Jean, a homemaker, had a creative soul. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart, which reflected in how she lived her life, how she treated others, and how she raised her children. She loved making clothes and quilts for Pete, her children, and all of her extended family. For the past twenty years, she used her talents to support NB Ministries. Jean crafted beads by rolling and sealing tiny pieces of cut church bulletins. The beads were strung into thousands of necklaces, which were donated to countless elderly men and women, who cherished these handmade treasures. Nikki and Buck Stanley, of NB Ministries, gift the necklaces as they minister to nursing homes throughout Florida and West Virginia. Most recently, Jean enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, with her daughter-in-law Linda. Jean is survived by her son, Harold (Linda Day) Adleman of Chattahoochee ; her daughter Linda Sue (Robert) Bolinger of Camden, NY ; and her sister, Marilyn Hubbard Antosh. Other survivors include her four grandchildren; Andrew (Wendy) Adleman, Lisa Bolinger (Gary) Pickard, Jimmy Smith, and Wendy (David) McQuaig; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three great-granddogs, and several nieces and nephews. Jean Hubbard Adleman did not hide her light under a basket, but let the love of Jesus shine through her to everyone she met.
