June 14, 1931 - November 29, 2021
Harold Lee (HL) Ganey, 90, passed away at his home in Quincy, FL on November 29, 2021. Harold was born June 14, 1931, to Richard (RE) and Oralee (Bell) Ganey in Lyons, GA, the oldest of three children. He attended Winter Haven High School. Harold met his beautiful bride and wife of 72 years, Jonell Quinn at the First Baptist Church of Wahneta where their love continued to grow for each other and their Lord. He was the last surviving charter member. The running joke in the family was he married Jonell so she’d teach him how to play the piano. And she did. What a great duo they made. At many jam sessions, the duo would sit at the piano together and play Down Yonder or Jimmy Dorsey’s Boogie Woogie. He had a gift of being able to play any instrument he picked up. Harold wore several different hats in his lifetime. He sold orange juice at Cypress Gardens, owned the mom-and-pop grocery store Ganey’s General Store, music director and deacon at church, managed cattle, rental houses, and citrus groves. Apart from these, he loved spending time with his family and listening to and studying Dr. J Vernon McGee’s series Thru the Bible. He would tell you his favorite job was watching his grandson, Matthew, play sports. He never missed a game and only missed 1 practice and it was because he had a heart attack. Harold is survived by his two children, Mike (Joanne B.) of Lynwood, Washington and Sarita Taylor of Quincy, FL. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Anitra Davis, Sophia Mahdaoui, Victoria Ganey, Matthew Taylor (Lillie B.) and Christine Ganey and 4 great-grandsons: Ezekiel Davis, Branson Davis, Jeremiah Davis and Benjamin Taylor. He is also survived by his 2 fur babies, Ginger and Midnight. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, 2 younger sisters (Gibarose Register and Judith Oliver) and the love of his life, Jonell.
