Carol Joyce Malone Porter

December 27, 1930 - February 21, 2019

Carol Porter, 88, passed away on February 21, 2019 in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born in St. Petersburg Florida on December 27, 1930 to Sheldon and Cecil Tippett Malone. A Graduate of St. Petersburg High School, Carol married the love of her life, James Melbourne Porter the day after she graduated from high school. Carol was employed by General Telephone and Electric for over 20 years in St. Petersburg. Upon retirement, Carol and Jim moved to Burnsville, North Carolina in the mountains, where they made many lifelong friends in the Cattail Creek Community. Carol was a long-time member of the Pensacola United Methodist church in Burnsville, North Carolina, where she was a steadfast member of the choir and served in many leadership roles. She loved her church and her brothers and sisters in Christ. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Sheldon and Cecil Malone; her brother, James Malone; her husband, James M. Porter and infant daughter, Deborah Joyce Porter. Carol is survived by: 4 sons, J. Douglas (Karen Liebert) Porter; Daniel (Sandy) Porter; David (Sheree) Porter and Donald (Susan) Porter, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Carol also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Carol was her given name, but most simply knew her as Pema. Carol spent her life in service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and ministering to those around her. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with the love of her life, Jim, in Heaven. The family would like to express a sincere note of thanks to the staff and residents of Tapestry Assisted Living Facility in Tallahassee, Fl. We would like to express our profound appreciation to the work and service of Big Bend Hospice and the respite care provided to Carol in her final days. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Carol’s name to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee and/or Pensacola United Methodist Church in Burnsville, N.C.
