Betty A. Miles, 88, died at home with family by her side on November 11, 2021, after a long illness. She was born on January 6, 1933 in Bradshaw, West Virginia, the daughter of William Ralph Asbury and Myrtle Stella Cypers Asbury. She attended elementary School in Bradshaw and graduated from Iager High School. She attended Marshall University, Concord College, and Rollins College, earning bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist’s degrees in education. Betty was a talented and dedicated educator in West Virginia and Florida for over 35 years. She always made every decision based on what was best for her students. She loved Wahneta Elementary School in Polk County, Florida, where she served as Principal for more than 10 years. She was also an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Polk County. Betty retired to Tallahassee, Florida, in 1997 to be close to family. She enjoyed traveling and made trips to several countries in Europe. She sang in her church choir for many years and served in leadership positions at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, Florida. She was very active in local and state political election campaigns and other civic activities. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Her survivors include her son, Michael J. Miles and his wife, Juany, of Miami, Florida; daughter Elizabeth F. Miles, and spouse, Martha Asbury of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter, Jamie L. Miles, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and granddaughter Jamie Miles and husband Adrian Lena of Miami. A service of celebration and remembrance will be held at United Church of Tallahassee 1834 Mahan Drive Tallahassee Florida 32308, on Saturday March 26, 2022 at 3:00PM.
