Alfred "Buddy" Marion Bevis Jr.
November 10, 1935 - June 8, 2022
Alfred “Buddy” Bevis Jr. passed away peacefully at home on June 8th, 2022. He was born to Alfred M. Bevis Sr. and Rose Herlong Bevis on November 10th, 1935. A 5th generation Floridian, he had many fond memories of his childhood growing up on King st in Quincy, Florida. The family moved to Tallahassee in the 1940s and he attended Leon High School. He spent his entire working career at Tallahassee Furniture and was known as an excellent and honest salesman. He retired at the age of 60 and enjoyed gardening, fishing and duck hunting. He would chase any fish that swam, if you could eat it. He especially loved fishing for redfish on the Ochlockonee river. Duck hunting carried him from Texas to the Chesapeake Bay of Maryland. But there was not much he liked more than a group of ring necks coming into the decoys on lake Miccosukee. He was an exceptional story teller and was usually the center of conversation. He always put family first. Nothing was more important to him than the care of his wife, children and grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary “Meg” Bevis, his son Barry W. Bevis, daughter in law Jessica P. Bevis, and their children Marion and Charlotte Bevis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred M. Bevis Sr, Rose Herlong Bevis, brothers and sisters Glen R. Bevis, O.R. “Bubba” Bevis, Betty Jean “Jeanie” Bevis Jones, Shirley Bevis Wynn, and his daughter Mary Beth Bevis. A private burial will be held for the family at Roselawn Cemetery with Fr. David Martin and Fr. Matthew Wilkins of St. Peters Anglican Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Barry & Jessi Bevis, 3111 Ortega Dr, Tallahassee, FL from 1-4 Sunday, June 12th. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorial donations be mailed to Tallahassee Ducks Unlimited, 6451 Needles Trail, Tallahassee, FL 32309. Tholley Taylor with Lifesong (lifesongfunerls.com or (850) 765-3190) is assisting the Bevis family with arrangements.
